Check Korean public holidays at a glance on a calendar!

The holiday calendar displays Korean public holidays in calendar form, making it easy to quickly check each holiday's date and name.

It includes holiday information for 2024 and 2025, from fixed annual holidays like Seollal, Chuseok, and Children's Day to variable holidays based on the lunar calendar.

It is useful for planning annual leave, travel schedules, delivery timing, and checking bank/government office operating hours.

Glossary

Public Holiday
Days when government offices are closed by law, including fixed annual holidays like New Year's Day and Independence Movement Day, as well as lunar-calendar-based holidays like Seollal and Chuseok.
Alternative Holiday
A system where the next weekday is designated as a public holiday when a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday.
Lunar / Solar Calendar
The solar calendar is based on Earth's revolution around the sun, while the lunar calendar is based on the moon's phases. Seollal and Chuseok follow lunar calendar dates.

Example 1 — 2025 Lunar New Year holiday

2025 Lunar New Year falls on Jan 29 (Wed). Including the adjacent weekend, a 5-day break from Jan 26 (Sun) to Jan 30 (Thu) is possible (varies by company). Use this calendar to locate exact holiday and substitute holiday positions.

Example 2 — Planning time off

Looking at the week containing Parents' Day (May 8, Thu): combining the holiday with the weekend can yield a 4-day break with minimal annual leave. Early calendar review helps plan efficient leave usage.

Key Holiday Tips

  • Alternative holiday system: When a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, the next weekday may be designated as an alternative holiday. From 2024, the scope of alternative holidays has been expanded.
  • Annual leave strategy: Using annual leave around holidays can create long vacations. Taking leave on Monday or Friday connected to holidays is effective.
  • Delivery: Delivery may be delayed on holidays, so order important items in advance.
  • Banks/Government offices: Most banks and government offices do not operate on holidays, so check in advance.
  • Business hours changes: On holidays, businesses typically operate on weekend hours, and some stores may be closed.
  • Government services: Civil complaint submission and processing are not possible on holidays, so plan accordingly.

QWhen will 2026 holiday data be added?

The calculator has 2024–2025 holidays built in. Later years will be added once official designations (Regulations on Public Holidays) are published. Until then, refer to the National Court Administration or Ministry of Economy and Finance.

QHow are substitute holidays shown?

Substitute holidays appear when a public holiday falls on Sunday or the next day is a workday. They're marked with a separate 'Substitute Holiday' label. Applicable only to statutory holidays (Lunar New Year, Chuseok, Parents' Day, etc.) and vary by year.

QAre these holidays legally binding?

This calendar is for reference. Official holidays are designated annually by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Companies may operate differently (e.g., floating holiday systems) — check your company's policy.

QDo lunar-calendar differences change holiday dates?

Lunar New Year, Chuseok, and Buddha's Birthday shift in the Gregorian calendar each year. This calendar converts them to the correct Gregorian dates for instant lookup.

QWhat happens when a holiday overlaps with a weekend?

When a holiday falls on a weekend, it functions as a day off but does not automatically create an extra day off unless designated as a substitute holiday. For workers, overlapping Sunday holidays may trigger substitute holidays for statutory holidays only — application varies between government offices and private companies.
