Term Glossary
- Invoice
- A document where the seller lists transaction items, quantities, and amounts to request payment from the buyer. Serves as transaction evidence and payment collection basis.
- VAT (Value Added Tax)
- A tax on goods or services transactions, with a standard rate of 10% in Korea. Calculated by multiplying supply amount by tax rate, ultimately borne by the end consumer.
- Subtotal
- The sum of all item amounts (quantity × unit price) before adding VAT. Adding VAT gives the final total.
- Tax Invoice
- A legal document issued for VAT declaration/deduction in business-to-business transactions. Requires business registration number, supply amount, and tax amount separation.
- Enter your company (seller) and customer (buyer) information.
- Click add item to enter each line item with its name, quantity, and unit price.
- Set the tax rate (%) to apply.
- Review the preview, then print or download to issue the invoice.
Two Items with 10% Tax
Add 2 items priced at $50 each: the subtotal is $100, the tax is $10, and the total is $110.
Subtotal = quantity × unit price = 2 × $50 = $100Tax = subtotal × rate = $100 × 10% = $10Total = subtotal + tax = $110
Quantity x Unit Price
An item with quantity 5 and unit price $20 is calculated as $100, which is then added to the subtotal and taxed.
Zero Tax Rate
Setting the tax rate to 0% makes the subtotal equal the total with no tax, useful for tax-exempt transactions.
Item Amount
Item Amount = Quantity × Unit Price
Subtotal
Subtotal = Σ (Quantity × Unit Price)
VAT and Total
VAT = Subtotal × (Tax Rate ÷ 100)
Total = Subtotal + VAT
Example: Subtotal ₩100,000, Tax Rate 10% → VAT ₩10,000, Total ₩110,000

QHow is the tax calculated?
Tax is calculated by multiplying the subtotal (the sum of all line items) by the tax rate you set. Example: a $100 subtotal at 10% gives $10 of tax.
QWhat is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice is a document requesting payment and is issued before payment, while a receipt proves that payment has been made and is issued after payment.
QWhat does a valid invoice require?
A valid invoice needs seller and buyer details, a unique invoice number, issue date, item/quantity/unit price, subtotal, tax, and total. This calculator covers all of these.
QCan I export to PDF or print?
Yes. Press the print button to open your browser print dialog, where you can choose "Save as PDF" or send it to a printer.
QHow is the currency formatted?
Amounts are shown in won (₩) and computed automatically from the quantities and unit prices you enter. If you need a different currency, simply enter the numbers using that currency.
